Chris McCaa, a.k.a. Professor Porkchop

Chris McCaa was born the younger of two boys to Mac and Norma McCaa in Shreveport, Louisiana. Chris' father was a sportsman, who taught Chris how to hunt and fish and respect nature. His mother was a patron of the arts and although they lived on a modest income, she always made sure Chris had season tickets to the Shreveport Symphony.

When Chris was nine, he saw the legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck perform with the Shreveport Symphony. Little did the impressionable young man know that nine years later he would be on that very stage playing the cello in the Shreveport Symphony during a demand return appearance with Dave Brubeck himself.

Heavily influenced by the music of New Orleans and the blues scenes in both Memphis and Austin, Chris next turned his attention toward keyboard instruments and stage bands.

Chris McCaa has been a member of several of Louisiana's most popular bar bands. The list includes A-Train in the 1970s, The Red Hots in the 1980s, and the MTV award winning Insatiables in the 1990s.

In more recent years, Chris has come back to his roots as a Louisiana piano player. Taking the moniker of Professor Porkchop, Chris created a band that takes you on a musical trip through the bayou, to New Orleans and beyond.

Chris has opened for such greats as B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmy Vaughan, Asleep at the Wheel, Bo Diddley, KoKo Taylor, Delbert McClinton, Keb' Mo'.

You can catch Professor Porkchop behind the piano at fine eateries in the Shreveport-Bossier area or with his band at many of the gambling boats up and down the Red River.

Listen to his single entitled, Shreveport, You All Grown Up, from the upcoming album, Underneath a HooDoo Moon, on the Larry Ryan Show on KLKL - Oldies 95.7FM.
